ANIMAL EFFIGY These six drawings were used in Squire and Davis's book to illustrate some of the better examples of mammal and reptile effigy pipes. The picture shows a beaver, frog, snake, otter and wild cat. The pipe at top right is described by Squire and Davis as a manatee but there seems to be some disagreement that it might be a beaver instead.
