1-B
LANGE--FERGUSON MAMMOTH KILL SITE

This is one of two large chopper cleaver bone tools found during excavation on the Lange--Ferguson mammoth kill site located on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. It was made from the right scapula of an adult mammoth. This bone artifact was bifacially flaked into shape and use wear is apparent on the working edge. Edge wear has been verified by scanning electron microscope examination.
The lower picture shows a triple exposure of this artifact.
The picture at lower right shows one of the bone fragments that was broken away.
