SERRATED BONE FLESHER

AGATE BASIN SITE
JAMES DUGUID COLLECTION

This serrated bone flesher was found by James Duduid in Area 6 on the Agate Basin site. It was found in a redeposited context so its age is questionable but it is believed to be Folsom. Another bone tool similar to this example and made of camel bone was found in the Folsom level in Area 2 on the Agate Basin site.
Similar tools have been found on sites as recent as the Mitchell site, a Mississippian farming community in southeast South Dakota.
If Folsom people used scrapers like this example approximately 11,000 years ago it's likely that Clovis people may have used something very similar.

Bone scraping tool from the Agate Basin site triple exposed.
