CLOVIS
POINT This close-up of the base of a Clovis point shows the hafting area roughened by scratching, a procedure that apparently was done almost exclusively on obsidian. This roughening of the hafting area is thought to be helpful in better holding a Clovis point in the haft on the end of the spear or foreshaft. Obsidian was commonly used to make Clovis points in the far west where this material was available. |
