BROKEN BIFACE
MESA SITE
NORTHERN ALASKA ABOVE THE ARCTIC CIRCLE
BUREAU OF LAND MANAGEMENT

This large broken biface was also found during excavation of the Mesa site. It measures 1 7/8 inches wide. It's thin and very well flaked with finely done retouch pressure flaking on the edges. It's possible that this was at one time hafted onto a short handle and used as a knife. The severe angle of the blade edge seems to indicate it may have been resharpened one or more times before it was broken and became no longer useful.
