EXCAVATION IN This picture shows quite a lot of activity in an area called the Big Pit. This photo was taken sometime during the third year of the seven year excavation project. Six people can be seen working in the excavation. Roberts used horses to remove several feet of overburden above the Folsom level and again to backfill the excavated areas.
