This St. Clair side-notched hoe is one of the best

examples that has ever been found. It was discovered

many years ago near the town of Grand Tower near the

Mississippi River at the southern tip of Illinois. It was

very skillfully flaked into its symmetrical shape using

percussion and pressure flaking. This Cahokia style St.

Clair side-notched hoe is made of a beautiful orange

colored Kaolin chert. It measures 6 1/2 inches (16.5 cm)

long and 5 1/4 inches (13.3 cm) wide.
