DIHEDRAL BURIN
UPPER PALEOLITHIC----AURIGNACIAN
TERMO-PIALAT SITE
SOUTHERN FRANCE

This burin was made on a blade. It's called a straight dihedral burin because there are two burin flake removals, one on either side of the working edge forming two intersecting planes. This burin also hasone sharp edge that could be used for cutting. The opposite edge was squared off with a burin type flake removal. The working edge also shows extensive use wear. It measures 2 1/2 inches (6.4cm) long.

Dihedral burin from the Aurignacian stone tool industry.
