CLOVIS POINT

FENN CACHE
FORREST FENN COLLECTION

Of all the Clovis points in the Fenn cache this example is the most spectacular. It has some of the best edge-to-edge percussion flaking ever seen on any early spear or knife point of this type ever found. It effectively illustrates the classic Clovis stone tool manufacturing method of edge-to-edge percussion flaking known as "outre passe". This point was so skillfully made that to date no one has been able to accurately duplicate it.
This Clovis point is made of a beautiful red phosphoria chert from the Phosphoria Formation. The source is located on the northern Bighorn Mountains in Big Horn County, Wyoming. It measures 6 inches long.
